In the short term, the riots severely impacted the Hough neighborhood and its people, but in the long run, the riots in Hough and across the country caused a significant reaction and produced reform both locally and nationally. The riots taught city governments across the country to focus more on poor neighborhoods, rather than ignore the challenges occurring there. Laws were enacted to ensure that all African Americans could share the promises of the Civil Rights Movement. |
